BANDALUZIA & The Music of ASTOR PIAZZOLLA
In their new show BANDALUZIA FLAMENCO led by ARIA nominated Flamenco guitarist DAMIAN WRIGHT bring a uniquely Flamenco perspective to the Argentine Tango music of Astor Piazzolla.
Flamenco & Tango share many similar sentiments of nostalgia, love and loss, with a reflection on the more profound sides of life, expressed through beautiful and cathartic music. Both styles have similar beginnings as music of the dispossessed and marginalised, with the art forms now having triumphed internationally as cherished music and dance.
Bandaluzia also features flamenco dancers JESSICA STATHAM and ROSALIE COCCHIARO, outstanding percussionist JAMES HAUPTMAN & violinist YUHKI MAYNE.
"Bandaluzia is a brilliant blend, with all the technical underpinning of this most sophisticated music and dance, but with a gleeful lack of restraint when it comes to conventional forms. The dance from Rosalie Cocchiaro and Jessica Statham is breathtaking, and the three-strong musical trio in a league of their own". The Advertiser, Adelaide.
ASTOR PIAZZOLLA (March 11, 1921 – July 4, 1992) was an Argentine tango composer, virtuoso bandoneon player, and arranger. His works revolutionized the traditional tango into a new style termed nuevo tango, incorporating elements from jazz and classical music.
